MAKEUP MAIL: LUSH FRESH HANDMADE COSMETICS

MAKEUP MAIL, BEAUTYElizabeth NichinComment

Happy Monday everyone!

Here at Feminist Beauty Project, I've been emailing and reaching out to companies to open up dialogue about where our beauty products are made, how they are made, who is making them, and where companies get their raw materials from. I've been using an email template that I wrote up, which you can find in full disclosure under my resources page. This Makeup Mail post is the first in an ongoing series of posts, where I will share the responses (or the lack of a response) that I receive from cosmetic companies.

Today's mail comes from LUSH. I sent out a batch of emails on Friday, and not only did a LUSH representative get back to me in an extremely timely manner, she was very helpful and transparent in answering my questions. Read below to see what LUSH had to say!

For reference, here are my questions:

SOURCING
1. From where (what countries) does your company source its raw ingredients? Are your sources organic and sustainable?
2. Do your products contain any ingredients derived from animals? Is any of your products vegan friendly?

PRODUCTION
1. In what country or countries are your products manufactured? Where are your company’s labs, manufacturing locations, factories, and/or assembly plants located (city and country)?
2. Are your products manufactured and assembled in different places?
3. Does your company test ingredients or finished products on animals? Does your company use a third party to conduct animal testing?
4. Is your company owned by or affiliated with any companies that test products or ingredients on animals?

LABOR
1. What efforts does your company take to ensure that fair labor practices are secured for your employees?
2. Are you able to provide a demographic breakdown of your company’s employees (gender, age, race, ethnicity)?
